NFT – SportsIcon, a London, UK-based new sports-focused NFT platform, raised a new seven figure funding round.
Backers included Nas; Elefund, former NBA champion Andrew Bogut; Roham Gharegozlou, the CEO of Dapper Labs, creators of NBA Top Shot; wndrco, On Deck Runway Fund, Nihal Mehta of Eniac Ventures, serial entrepreneur Sunny Madra, Mike Edwards of Argo Blockchain, Anand Agarawala, Founder of Spatial, Andrew Masanto of Reserve Protocol, Hedera Hashgraph and Pet Lab Co., and Chad Hurley, the founder and former CEO of YouTube. Led by Chris Worsey, a veteran founder of multiple Edtech startups, Alexi Yovanoff, a former FIFA Match Agent and Director at Integer Sport, and Matt Smithies, a Hashgraph Hedera MVP, CTO of DOVU, and an expert blockchain developer, SportsIcon will be working with a host of athletes to offer 15-20 NFTs each a chapter in a story centered around iconic moments from their lives and careers. The NFTs are created by incorporating archival footage plus original content filmed exclusively with the icon as well as digital artists to create one-of-a-kind, inalterable digital memorabilia.In addition to collectible NFTs, the company will also work with these athletes to produce immersive two-hour masterclasses, giving fans access to their mental and physical training methods, techniques, and best practices.SportsIcon is currently developing NFT agreements with icons past and present from across various sports, including soccer, tennis, MMA, basketball, and baseball.22/04/2021
