Epic Games Receives $250M Minority Investment from Sony Corporation

USA – Epic Games, Inc., a Cary, NC-based interactive entertainment company, received a minority investment of $250m from Sony Corporation.

Sony made the investment through a wholly-owned subsidiary. The deal, whose closing is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, allows the two companies to broaden their collaboration across Sony’s portfolio of entertainment assets and technology, and Epic’s social entertainment platform and digital ecosystem to create new experiences for consumers and creators.Founded in 1991 by Tim Sweeney, CEO, Epic Games is an interactive entertainment company and provider of 3D engine technology, which operates Fortnite, the world’s largest game with over 350 million accounts and 2.5 billion friend connections. The company also develops Unreal Engine, which powers the world’s leading games and is being adopted across industries such as film and television, architecture, automotive, and manufacturing for visualization and simulation.
