USA – Censys, an Ann Arbor, Mi.-based search engine for internet devices, raised $15.5m in Series A funding.
The round was led by GV and Decibel with participation from Greylock. The company intends to use the funds to expand operations, expanding its sales, engineering, and leadership teams, and its business reach. Launched in 2015 at the University of Michigan by the security researchers who developed ZMap, the most widely used tool for Internet-wide scanning, Censys allows users to discover the devices, networks, and infrastructure on the Internet and monitor how it changes over time. . Over the past five years, the team has performed thousands of Internet-wide scans, consisting of trillions of probes, and has played a central role in the discovery or analysis of some of the most significant Internet-scale vulnerabilities: FREAK, Logjam, DROWN, Heartbleed, and the Mirai botnet. Censys has answered millions of questions from researchers, corporations, and government users. To serve growing demand, in the fall of 2017, the company spun out of the university, offering enhanced services and technical support. It is led by CEO David Corcoran. 13/08/2020
