Luma Health, the leader in smart patient-provider communications, today announced it has completed a $6.33 million round of Series A funding led by U.S. Venture Partners and with continued participation from the Stanford-StartX Fund and additional existing investors. With the investment, Luma Health will continue to extend its go-to-market operations, including sales and marketing, while also expanding its engineering team to support the company's growing product roadmap. The investment brings Luma Health's total funding since launching its cloud-based patient-provider communications platform to $9.7 million. Dafina Toncheva of U.S. Venture Partners will join Luma Health's board of directors.

"U.S. Venture Partners has a long history of helping SaaS companies in enterprise and healthcare take relationships between businesses and consumers to the next level," said Dafina Toncheva, partner at U.S. Venture Partners. "It's hard for patients to connect with their providers along their entire healthcare pathway. Luma Health has found a way to harness mobile to improve patient-provider communication throughout the healthcare journey, making patients healthier and impacting providers' bottom line."

Clear and timely communication between patients and physicians is critical to keeping patients on track with their care. Breakdowns in that communication often result in missed care visits, inconsistent follow-ups, last-minute cancellations and long wait times to see a doctor. To address this patient-physician gap, Luma Health developed a mobile-first, cloud-based conversation platform designed to address the entire patient care journey. Today's Series A funding news closely follows several milestones, including achieving 20 million patient interactions through more than 61,000 healthcare providers and 2.8 million patients on Luma's smart conversation platform.

In addition, Luma Health recently launched a significant extension to its platform with Care Pathway Messaging, a bot-enabled solution that allows healthcare providers to send customized text messages and clinical guidance based on medical specialty and procedure to address the personal needs and care journey of each individual patient. Two-way messaging functionality also allows patients to respond and ask questions via SMS, fully integrated with over 55 electronic health record (EHR) and practice management (PM) systems.

"We're focused on helping more Americans get to the right care, with the right doctor, and to the best healthcare outcome quickly. Luma's smart conversations change the way patients interact with healthcare," said Adnan Iqbal, CEO and co-founder of Luma Health. "The results are there – patients wait less, heal more, stay on top of their care, and clinics see a 10x ROI in just their first month. This new investment enables us to expand our team and offerings, helping us connect even more patients to care, and empowering healthcare providers to guide their patients through their own unique healthcare journey."

Key features in the Luma Health patient-provider communications platform include:

Care Pathway Messaging: New bot-enabled messaging allows providers to send unique, automated text messages to serve the personal needs of each individual patient before and after visits and procedures.
Referral Management: Allows specialty clinics to automate referral outreach and enable patients to self-schedule via call or text.
Smart Waitlists: By integrating with practice management calendars, patient cancellations are automatically filled via ongoing waitlists.
Actionable Reminders: A two-way reminder system that goes beyond text appointment confirmations by creating customizable messages that patients can engage with – including reply, reschedule, or join waitlists.
Feedback and Reputation Management: Enabling real-time, actionable, and anonymous patient feedback and online reviews.
Secure Chat: HIPAA-compliant chat functionality allows for the safe exchange of information relating to insurance, test results and images.
Web Scheduler: Scheduling widgets allow clinics to publish available times on the web site, empowering patients to make appointments anytime and anywhere.
